Enoggera Barracks floored by new Mess
April 2010
As part of The Enoggera Barracks Redevelopment stage 1 a new Combined Mess has been built on the base. The Combined Mess accommodates 1050 personnel in one meal sitting.
The Mess for Enoggera Barracks, has a floor area of 800m2 and the spec demanded that all timber be chain of custody, supplied from Boral.

Hence a Solid Blackbutt 85mm wide 19mm solid strip flooring was supplied for the job for its durability and hardness.
The subfloor was a concrete slab, which was levelled before Finlayson team installed the plastic membrane on top of the concrete to prevent moisture rising from the slab, 80 x 19mm battens were then fixed with masonry anchors, we then installed the 85 x 19mm Select Coastal Blackbutt floor which was strip glued and secret nailed to the battens.
Expansion joints were then put in at every 4 metre width of floor due to the expanse of the floor.
There was a small window of opportunity for the team at Finlayson’s Supply and Install to install this floor, so we had to meet some pretty tight scheduling times which we managed with our own military precision.
The process took seven days to install, and five days to sand and coat.
The result is an area that is warm and inviting, while still maintaining the functionally of a main eating area.
