Working Towards a Sustainable Forest Future

Climate change and global warming are widely accepted phenomenon that are largely man-made, and that the effects are potentially disastrous. At Finlayson’s, we are committed to caring for our environment, be that man made or natural.

We are committed to the development and distribution of forest-friendly timber and timber products. Products distributed by Finlayson’s are sourced where possible from renewable natural forests and managed plantations.

We will do this by

  • All of Finlaysons araucaria products are sourced from Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) certified forests
  • Most of Finlaysons hardwood products are sourced from AFS certified forests
  • Finlayson’s are actively pursuing better energy efficiency, waste management, reuse and recycling
  • Finlayson’s conforms to the local marketing acts and building codes and carefully selects, dries and treats it’s Australian timber products for Australian conditions.

Certification

Chain of Custody Certification

The Araucaria harvested and processed by Finlayson’s at Yarraman Pine Pty Ltd in Queensland is grown in plantations that are third party certified for sustainable forest management. Finlayson’s also has Araucaria Chain of Custody Certification to the Australian Standard.

What is Chain of Custody Certification

Responsible Wood Certification Scheme gives Queensland's timber industry the market advantage of a "chain-of-custody" tracking process for green labelling products as coming from sustainably managed timber resources when sourced from Repsonsible Wood-certified forests.

Chain-of-custody certification provides a mechanism to track timber or forest products from a certified forest throughout the supply chain to an end - user. Most international forest certification schemes have associated chain-of-custody schemes.

Having a chain-of-custody system gives purchasers the highest level of confidence that the timber they are procuring originates from certified sustainably managed forests.

Around 85 per cent of all timber processed in Queensland comes from certified forests, but at this stage only a small number of Queensland processors have chain-of-custody certification, and Finlayson’s is proud to be one of the few.

Responsible Wood

The Scheme protects and promotes Australia’s unique environments by ensuring a forest industry that is environmentally, socially, culturally and commercially sustainable. It provides guidance and accountability to forest manager, manufacturers and suppliers of timber products.

Forest Stewardship Council Certification (FSC)

FSC Certification is a stakeholder-owned system for promoting responsible management of the world’s international forests. The FSC is a global, not-for-profit organisation that monitors standards for responsible forest management and practices and accredits independent third party organisations who certify forest managers and forest product producers to FSC standards.
